Recreational Soccer

Recreational Soccer Divisions:

Mini Kickers U-5 Co-Ed:  (PreK) This program is designed to provide an age appropriate family soccer experience for a 4 year old. This age specific approach is built around the introduction and development of the core skills required to play the game. Through fun games and activities the program develops balance, running, jumping, turning, hand eye coordination and spatial awareness, all essential to allow the young player to eventually learn and enjoy the game. All of the learning and coaching points are integrated into the games, stories and play. The program has also been developed to support active parent participation. This approach fosters a memorable experience for the whole family and encourages support for the volunteer coach. The program runs every Saturday from 9:00am to 10:30am on Field A through out the spring and fall season.


Mini-Kickers U-5 Co-Ed:  (Pre-School)  Introductory program where kids will start learning to play with others.  They will learn basic skills through fun activities and informal matches.  Parental participation is a must at this age. Introduction to 3 v 3 format. The program runs every Saturday from 9:00am to 10:30am on Field A through out the spring and fall season.

Socceroos U-6 Co-Ed:  (Kindergarten) 3 v 3 format. This program is a continuation of the  U-5 program which brings the same spirit of fun and adventure to the entire family and establishes a soccer experience that lasts a lifetime. The program runs every Saturday from 9:00am to 10:30am on Field A through out the spring and fall season.

Micros U-8 Co-Ed:  (1st - 2nd Grade) 4 v 4 format. Practices are once per week, games are played Saturdays from 9:00am to 10:30am on Fields C and D. No referees are needed. The standing rain date will be the following Monday at 6:00pm.

Peewees U-10 Co-Ed:  (3rd - 4th Grade) 7 v 7 format. They play two 25-minute halves. Only one referee official is required, offsides will be called. Practices are once per week, games are played Saturdays from 11:00am to 12:30pm on Fields A, C, and D.

Juniors U-12 Co-Ed:  (5th - 6th Grade) 9 v 9 format. They play four 15 minute quarters. Only one referee official is required, obvious offsides will be called. Practices are once per week, games are played Saturdays at 9:00am and 11:00am on Field B.

Seniors U-15 Co-Ed:  (7th - 8th Grade along with 9th Graders who DO NOT play on the HS Teams) 
9 v 9 format in the Fall and 11 v 11 format in the Spring. They play two 30 minute halves. Only one referee official is required for 9 v 9 and three referees for 11 v 11, offsides will be called. Practices are twice per week, games are played Saturdays at 1:00pm.

For this older division (grades 7-9), there is a wide range of size and skills from beginner to advanced. To assist in creating the most balanced teams possible, all Senior division players must attend a skills evaluation session (date will be provided at the time of registration). Players spend about an hour and a half going through several drills. Senior division coaches will be present to evaluate basic ball handling skills and player abilities. Players are then drafted into teams based on the results.

* In order to keep teams balanced, all division category standards are subject to change depending on number of players registered and their skill level * 

Recreational Soccer:

Location:  All games are played at Dwyer Park, 199 University Ave. (off of Goodwin Street)

Practices:  Micros and older have one to two practices per week, on a week night, scheduled by coaches. Socceroos and younger combine practices and games on Saturday mornings.  Coaches call registered players 2 weeks before games start to begin practices. If a coach is unable to reach you, please email us and we will provide you with the necessary information.

Equipment:  All children must bring shin guards, soccer ball, and water to every practice and game.  
Ball sizes: Size 3 ball for Mini Kickers, Socceroos, Micros, and Peewees;  Size 4 for Juniors and Size 5 for Seniors). Uniforms will be provided. Soccer cleats are recommended, however, sneakers may be worn (no football or baseball cleats).

Cancellations:  In the event of heavy rain, games will be cancelled. We will call the coaches to confirm the cancellation and each coach will call their players. WE WILL PLAY IN LIGHT RAIN. Make up dates for cancellations will be announced during the season.

Pictures:  Photographers will visit the field on the 2nd or 3rd Saturday of the season. Picture forms will be sent home with the players the week before pictures. Players must arrive at least half an hour earlier than their usual arrival time that day to take pictures before the games begin. Pictures will be mailed to the child's home address, so please print clearly when filling out the order form.

Participation Awards:  Awards are provided by the club and handed out on the last day. Players must attend the last game to receive the award, unless arrangements were made with the coach. There will be no delivery of trophies to players who were not present.

Registration Information:  Recreational soccer is open to all children in East Hartford in grades Pre K - 9th. Children must be at least 4 years old. Teams are formed according to age.

Registration Fees
:  The cost for registrations received during the regular registration dates will be as follows:
U5 Mini Kickers - $50
U6 Socceroos - $50
U8 Micros - $50
U10 Peewees - $70
U12 Juniors - $70
U15 Seniors - $70

All late registrations received after the last registration date require an additional $20 late fee, accepted on a space available basis only.

Special Requests:  In an effort to keep teams as balanced as possible, our club currently does not award any special coaches' requests on any of our divisions.

Game Rules
:  Modified game rules are followed according to the recommendations of US Youth Soccer and CJSA for the age groups playing. Mini Kickers, Socceroos, and Bantam games will be officiated by the team coaches and provide a flexible, fun-focused atmosphere for the young players. All other divisions are officiated by certified youth referees. The job of the referee is to provide structure and instruction on the field. Recreational Soccer teams have players with diverse abilities from beginner to experienced. The purpose of recreational soccer is to provide a fun environment for players of all abilities to learn and play. To ensure that all players have an enjoyable experience playing soccer, appropriate conduct is expected of all players, volunteers and spectators. Please read the Conduct Rules and Regulations below for details. Opportunities for competitive play may be available on a travel team. Conduct Rules and Regulations:  EHSC, in accordance with CJSA Rules and Regulations, Section 1011: "promotes good sportsmanship by any member of CJSA, officials, leagues, clubs, teams, players, parents, spectators, coaches, administrators and referees, and expects the support of players and officials in a positive manner. Profanity, racial or sexist comments, or other intimidating comments or actions directed at officials, players, coaches, team representatives, or spectators will not be tolerated and are grounds for removal from the site of the competition and for disciplinary action."

To promote good sportsmanship and proper sideline conduct by spectators, please remember the following:

* Please encourage the children with applause and positive comments.  No negative comments from players or spectators.

* Do not yell loudly or shout excessively. This is distracting to the players and disruptive to the people around you.

* Negative comments towards referees will not be tolerated. Any problems should be discussed with a director only. Please remember that this is an instructional program and the priorities of the referees for the children are safety and fair play.
